What started out as a way to earn a few extra dollars quickly expanded to owning a restaurant in the city. Locals just couldn’t get enough of the entrees and desserts that the Ramos family created.The menu started out with simple fare, made with nutritious natural ingredients, such as maize, wheat, flour, raw milk, brown sugar and natural bee honey. The Ramos family also utilized the many fruits and vegetables they grew on their own land.The drug violence in Monterrey became so rampant that once their Vida Mia restaurant became successful in San Antonio, the Ramos family decided to make the city their permanent home. The location of their first San Antonio-based Mexican restaurant is in Stone Oak, and the second location is in Bulverde.


Then and Now

When the Ramos family was selling Mexican food from their home, the menu was simple, yet tasty. The traditional recipes were handed down over generations, but originally soups, tacos, corn chips, and burgers were the only offerings. For those with a sweet tooth, they offered popsicles, pies and ice cream. They could serve food only in the afternoons because they were still in college in the early ’70s.Later on, there was always a supply of warm, homemade flour tortillas, which they used to wrap around machacado or chorizo with egg and refried beans. At noon, there was always a hearty stew served with corn tortillas, a chicken and rice dish, or even hamburgers layered with refried beans on Sunday. Tortillas, soup, and beans were the mainstays in the family meals, and from there the creativity and ingenuity of the Ramos family helped develop the more complicated dishes that are sold in the restaurants today.As the hours and menu were expanded, dishes such as potato salad, rice or pasta, stuffed peppers, roast pork, rump roast, mole chicken, entomatadas, and other Mexican dishes tempted the crowds into the restaurant. The Ramos family jokes that their top-secret recipe for their red chile sauce is the reason so many people simply can’t resist their food. Mexican Fiesta — At a rate of $16.49 per guest, once can select three items from a list of options for them and their guests.

Taco Bar — Served with rice, refried beans, handmade flour or corn tortillas, guacamole, chips, and three different salsas, choose up to three flavors at the following rates: Taco Bar 1 Flavor $ 16.49; Taco Bar 2 Flavors $18.49; Taco Bar 3 Flavors $20.99.

Mexican Dinner — For $18.99 per person, customers receive the following: Tampiquena (grilled Arrachera steak, served with a cheese enchilada norteña fluffy rice, refried beans, guacamole, rajas poblanas and chips with three different salsas), salsa and chips, and a beverage.

Angel Chicken — For $17.49 per person, guests will receive a serving of angel chicken (chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and spinach and wrapped in bacon), as well as their choice of two sides and a beverage.

Fiesta Buffet — For $17.49 per person, customers receive three entrees, as well as chips and salsa, handmade tortillas, and guacamole.

Chilaquiles: Vida Mia

The San Antonio Current called Vida Mia the “Best Mexican Restaurant in San Antonio.” If you’re a first-timer here, you must try our award-winning chilaquiles! There are many restaurants in San Antonio that serve chilaquiles, but not many that are traditional and authentic. In Mexico, there are a number of ways to make chilaquiles. Chilaquiles actually means “chilis” and “greens” in ancient Nahuatl. Chilaquiles are fried tortilla pieces with hot sauce poured over them. It is common to add extra ingredients and garnishes, like chicken, eggs, queso fresco, and more.Our Vida Mia Chilaquiles are served with two different salsas and are stuffed with shredded chicken. The best way we can describe it is crunchy, tangy, and unique. If nachos were flavorful, light, and eaten for breakfast, they might be mistaken for chilaquiles!


Chilaquiles: Enmolados

When some traditional Mexican families make chilaquiles, they replace the salsa with mole. Since Vida Mia loves to stick to tradition, we created the Enmolados Chilaquiles, another fan favorite! Our mole is a house recipe that is unique to Vida Mia.If you’re not familiar with mole, it is a thick, rich, chocolate-tinged sauce. Yes, you read that correctly – chocolate. Mole has a sweet, rich sauce that so many people love. Someone who doesn’t like spicy foods or someone who has a sweet tooth would enjoy mole chilaquiles.


El Gallito

Get ready for the breakfast of champions. El Gallito means “little rooster” in Spanish, and this little rooster will definitely wake your taste buds up the in the morning.El Gallito is one of our most ordered breakfast items. It starts with a huarache (oblong, fried masa) and is topped with refried beans, eggs, and salsa with your choice of chicharrón or barbacoa. You can also customize this dish for whatever you’re craving. You get to pick the style of eggs and your favorite salsas to craft the perfect gallito for you. Don’t forget, you also get to choose your side of meat. Let’s call this… the ultimate breakfast sandwich – without all the carbs.


Molletes

If you’re a bread lover, you’ll love this dish. Molletes are a traditional breakfast item in Mexico. Molletes are baked, crusty baguettes that are layered with refried beans, jack cheese, and any other toppings. At Vida Mia, our molletes plate comes with three different styles: one topped with bits of crispy bacon, one topped with homemade chorizo, and one topped with “rajas” poblano peppers. The baguette is soft and fluffy, but baked to a light crisp. If you’re feeling hungry, this dish will leave you full and satisfied.


Tacos de la Calle

This dish might finally sound familiar to you…street tacos! Street tacos are specific to Mexico and are usually made from corn tortillas.
